Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of William (Bill) J. Smidt announce his peaceful passing on December 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 27,1941 in West Springfield, MA to the late Frank and Anna (Cardaropoli) Smidt. He was raised and lived in Feeding Hills, MA, graduating from Agawam High School class of 1959, and continuing on to The University of Massachusetts, Amherst graduating in 1963. Bill elected to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force achieving the rank of Captain, where he met his wife Hermione Ayres while oversees in England. After his service, Bill chose a career in pharmaceutical sales, working for companies including William S. Merrell, Sanofi-Aventis, and Roche. Bill and his wife raised two sons, and he was extremely active in their lives supporting them in various activities from sports to scouting. He was a car enthusiast and was immensely proud of his 1961 Corvette. He enjoyed spending time at home with his family, his children and grandchildren, and loved his dog, Abigail. He was a man who was admired and loved by all and will be deeply missed.

Surviving William are his devoted wife Hermione and his loving sons, Mark and his wife Anne and John and his wife Nancy. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Emily and Julia and a small extended family here and in England.

Visitation with his family and friends will be held on Monday January 5, 2026, from 4-6 P.M. at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street in Agawam. Family and friends will gather on Tuesday January 6, 2026, for a 1 P.M. funeral home service followed by committal at 2 P.M. with full military honors at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
