Obituary

Sherry Elizabeth (Kurtz) Petrucci, 68, entered into the kingdom of heaven on August 14, 2026, while in the arms of her loving husband, surrounded by her family. Sherry was a lifelong resident of Agawam born to the late David and Marlene (Rivers) Kurtz. Sherry raised three beautiful children with her loving husband Russell. They have spent over 40 years of marriage, creating memories together. Sherry must make it known she had a wonderful life, beautiful children and grandchildren, which she loved very much. She enjoyed her career as an RN serving surrounding communities and took pleasure in helping those around her. Sherry began as a CNA and then a nurse working in OB/GYN offices. After the kids were old enough, she began working as an Agawam school nurse and then as the Town Health Nurse until her retirement in 2023 after 31 years. Sherry was co-founder of the Western MA MAPHN and co-chair for 5 years and then the chapter president for 14 years. Sherry has numerous awards and proclamations from the town of Agawam, state and federal representatives and senate for her achievements. She took many trips with her family and husband that she enjoyed a great deal. Sherry traveled from Alaska to Zurich and many points in between. Anniversary trips to Italy and the French Riviera were her favorites. Sherry was a talented crafter and painter, and she gave most of her beautiful creations to others. She was an amazing seamstress and sewed her wedding gown, bridesmaids’ dresses and her husband’s formal shirt for their wedding. Sherry has wonderful memories that were captured with her family and friends along the way. Sherry has three beautiful grandchildren that she held dearly and made lasting memories with. Sherry is survived her husband, Russell, her children, Lindsay (Mark Eastham) Petrucci of Somers, CT, Christina (Fabio) DeSousa of Agawam, MA, and Russell (Courtney) Petrucci of Suffield, CT. She will be missed, dearly by her brother David Kurtz III (Claudia) of Westfield, MA, her Aunt Sandra Kunasek, many nieces, nephews, and cousins who she has had a life filled of memories with. Her legacy will be carried on by her grandchildren Sofie Petrucci, Alina DeSousa and Julio DeSousa. Sherry’s friendships are countless and her many wonderful friends are revered by us all. We want to thank the professionals at Legacy Lifecare for their personal care, support, insight and love for Sherry and our family during this delicate time. Calling hours for Sherry will take place at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, Agawam, Massachusetts on Friday, August 21st from 4- 7 p.m. Viewing will be Saturday, August 22nd at 9:00 AM with a Liturgy of Christian Burial mass at St. John’s Church, Main Street, Agawam, MA at 11:00 AM, following the funeral home service. Donations in Sherry’s memory may be made to The Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or Agawam Senior Center, 954 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001.
