Obituary

With great sadness and profound love, the family of Ronald B. Smith announces his peaceful passing on February 23, 2026, in the comfort of his family. Born on August 19,1942 to the late Donald and Reta (Stafford) Smith in West Springfield, he spent his youth and was educated in West Springfield. Ronald chose to serve his country honorably and enlisted in the United States Army. While serving, he wed the love of his life, Carol A. McCarthy and they shared sixty-two years happily married until his passing. Ronald was gifted with excellent manual dexterity and problem-solving ability which allowed him to have a successful career as a mechanic for more than 40 years at Allen Lawnmower, a well-known Agawam business. He paid strong attention to detail ensuring every component was thoroughly checked and the result was a well running machine. Ronald was a man who was devoted to his wife and family taking every opportunity to instill his life values in his children while creating everlasting memories. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren as well as his great grandchildren, always happy to shower them with his love and always there if needed. Ronald was meticulous about his yard and gardens. His green thumb was evident in the bounty of his vegetables and the beauty of his flowers. He also found great pleasure in camping with his family by his side. He will forever remain in the hearts of those he loved.

Ronald is preceded by his brother, Neal D. Smith.  Surviving him is his devoted wife Carol, and his loving children Anne Nelson and Tina Bixby and her husband Richard. To carry on his legacy, he leaves his adored grandchildren Brian, Stephanie, Amanda, Kayla and great grandchildren Benjamin, Lylliana, Juliet and Ronald. He will be missed by his loving brother Keith D. Smith, a small extended family and many close friends.
