Phyllis B. Gregg
October 16, 1924 – April 2, 2024
Phyllis B. Gregg, 99, passed away on April 2, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis donated her body to science at Harvard Medical School and was a lifelong blood donor. Born in Springfield on October 16, 1924, to the late Floyd and Mildred (Works) Barton, she was raised and educated there and remained a lifelong resident. Phyllis graduated from The High School of Commerce class of 1942 and was employed by a bank, Westinghouse, and Diamond Match Company. Phyllis married the love of her life Donald Gregg in 1946 and together they welcomed their two daughters and spent 77 years happily married. For 37 years she enjoyed spending time with Don at their mobile home in Wellfleet, Cape Cod where she loved swimming in the ocean, beach combing and "tag-sailing" (bringing home lots of treasures), riding over the sand dunes, motor boating on the ponds, visiting with neighbors and going to the movie theater. Phyllis was an avid gardener and birdwatcher, enjoyed music, especially playing the piano and, as an artist, she painted in oils, collected art books and artwork, and turned the walls of her home into galleries. Phyllis was an active member of the Church in the Acres in Springfield for 70 years. She had a great love for the Lord, and for her family.
Surviving Phyllis are her devoted daughters Kathryn and her husband Eric Norris of Agawam, and Cheryl and her husband Stephen Nacewicz of Springfield. She also leaves her loving grandchildren Matthew Norris, Emily Gagne, William Nacewicz, Melanie Nacewicz and great grandchildren Olivia, Caleb, Isabella, and Hope, as well as a small extended family and many friends. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Donald, her sister Evelyn Bailey, and her brother Lloyd Barton. The family would like to express their boundless gratitude to Phyllis' devoted caregivers.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13th at Church in the Acres. Memorial donations may be made to the Church in the Acres, 1383 Wilbraham Rd., Springfield MA 01119.
