Philippa J
Owen "Pj"
August 18, 1940 – May 21, 2025
With heavy hearts the family of Philippa J. Owen "PJ" announces her peaceful passing on May 21, 2025. PJ was born in Baltimore, Maryland on August 18, 1940 to the late Joseph and Lauretta (Totaro) Vaccarino. She wed her high school sweetheart, Arthur Owen Jr. in 1961 ~ together they raised two children. A devoted mother, PJ was always there to celebrate in the joys and assist in times of need. The family relocated to W. Springfield, MA in 1977 ~ gaining friends along the way and finally resided in Agawam in 1991. PJ and Art spent thirty-six wonderful years together, until his passing. She found love again with Thomas Burns from 2001 till the time of her passing. PJ had many occupations: Social Security Administration, U.S Census Bureau, she owned & operated a convenience store, as well as being a realtor; but the job that was the most fulfilling, was working with the students at Holyoke Community College as a department assistant for over 25 years. She was a proud wife, mother and companion, who devoted herself to her family as well as her community. PJ volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, and was active in her church choir and women's ministries. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, baking, gardening, puzzling, campfires and playing Canasta. After retirement, what gave PJ the most joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Surviving PJ are her daughter, Kathy White and husband Larry, and her son, Arthur Owen III and wife Johnna. She leaves her adored grandchildren: Alex, Kayce, Brittany, Arthur IV, and Ashlee, as well as nine (soon to be ten) gr. grandchildren. PJ also leaves a large extended family and countless friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, brother Isadore and sister Sally.
Visitation with PJ's family will be held on Monday June 2, 2025 from 10-11 A.M. at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street, concluding with a service beginning at 11 A.M. For those wishing to remember her in a special way, the family suggests donations be made to Wounded Warriors.
