Paul Joseph
Ryan
May 30, 1956 – December 24, 2024
Paul Joseph Ryan was a spirited beacon of faith and compassion, a man who dedicated his life to the service of others and the Lord. Born on May 30, 1956, in Springfield, MA, his story is one of unwavering commitment, generosity, and love. Paul was not just a man; he was a loving husband, a devoted father, an affectionate grandfather, and an inspiring pastor. His life was a beautiful testament to his favorite Bible verse, Jeremiah Chapter 9, verses 23-24, which underscored his humble heart and dedication to understanding and practicing steadfast love, justice, and righteousness.
Paul's professional journey was as diverse as it was fulfilling. For the majority of his working career, he was a skilled meat cutter before answering his call to serve as a pastor. His career in the church saw him serve in various capacities. His loving spirit and dedication to his calling extended beyond borders. Alongside his wife, Denise, he spent three years in China, teaching English during missionary work with the Glorious Gospel Church in Springfield, MA. After returning from the mission field Paul served as Pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Southbridge, MA, Elder at First Baptist Church in East Longmeadow, MA, and was most recently a deacon at Hope Community Church in Agawam, MA.
When he wasn't serving his congregation, Paul could be found submerged in the marine world as a master scuba diver, gliding down snowy slopes on his skis, spending cherished moments with his beloved German Shepherds, and before starting a family enjoying the thrill of drag racing as a NHRA member. Above all, Paul was a family man. His children were his pride and joy, and he reveled in their own journeys into missionary work. He was a man who found joy in the simple things, a man who prioritized time with his family and service to his community over personal accolades. If you knew Paul you knew that he always had a story to tell about times he shared with you and the adventures he loved so much.
Paul leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication in the hearts of his survivors: his high school sweetheart and wife of 47 years, Denise (Croteau) Ryan, his children, Shelley (Phil) Svoboda and PJ (Donna) Ryan; his sisters, JoAnn (John) Fontaine, Laura (Helen) Ryan, and Linda (Neil) Mckenna; his brother, Thomas (Tracy) Ryan; and his cherished grandchildren, Nadia, Quinn, Ian, Evelyn, Lillian, and Gabriel. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ann Ryan, and his brothers, Arnold and Joseph Ryan.
