With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Norman R. Bertera Jr., aged 78, of Springfield. Born on October 6, 1945, Norman left us on August 7, 2024. He was the cherished son of Norman R. Bertera Sr. and Virginia E. (Buckley) Bertera. Growing up in West Springfield, Norman was part of a warm and loving family, sharing countless memories with his siblings.
Norman served his country with pride as a veteran of the US Air Force. A graduate of UMASS and WNEC, he pursued his passions in auto repair and carpentry, always eager to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generous spirit and kind heart endeared him to many.
As a devoted member and elder of Grace Presbyterian Church, Norman found comfort and companionship in his faith community. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Paula C. Bertera, and his loving parents, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms.
Norman's legacy lives on through his children, Paul N. Bertera of Wilmington, Delaware, and William F. Bertera and his wife, Jocelyn, of Shirley, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his brother, William Bertera, and wife, Nancy, sister Kathleen Bertera, and his adored grandson, Henry.
Though his extended family may be small, Norman's circle of friends is vast. Each treasured his company and friendship deeply.
Norman's life will be celebrated at Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001, on August 15, 2024. Family and friends are invited to gather for calling hours from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. Norman will be laid to rest with honors at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 2:00 p.m.
Norman R. Bertera Jr. will forever be remembered for his unwavering kindness, dedication to his loved ones, and passion for helping others. His selflessness and impact on those he helped will always be felt. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
