Obituary

Mary Ellen (Danehy) Conroy, 92, passed away on April 7, 2025, in her home of 54 years, surrounded by her family. Born in Little Falls, NY to Leo and Mary Louise (DeCaire) Danehy, she graduated from St. Mary's Academy with a true love for music and great faith in God and prayer. She married John (Jack) Conroy, the love of her life, in 1954. Jack predeceased her as did their third child, Kevin Lee. Mary Ellen's siblings Bernie, Timmy, and Catherine also predeceased her. She leaves her brother Tom.

Mary Ellen was a strong and independent woman and matriarch of her family. She loved gatherings around the kitchen table to share stories, offer advice, and always laugh. She was a devoted democrat, believed that lives are enriched by helping others, and taught this to her children. Her generous spirit extended to small creatures. She fed her backyard birds and squirrels and opened her home to rabbits, multiple dogs and cats including her most recent rescue, Mattie-the-cat.

Mary Ellen is survived by her six children, Colleen (Kevin) Sullivan, John (Sandy) Conroy, Maureen Conroy (Tekla McInerney), Matt (Karen) Conroy, Susan (Mark) Lund, and Erin (Daniel) O'Brien; grandchildren Megan, Brenden, Jennifer, Danny, Ryan, Dan, Shannon, Kevin, Kaity, Shaun, Sara, Kyleigh, and Emma; and great-grandchildren that brought her great Joy: Jackson, Brody, Alex, Alaina, Maeve, Samantha, Emmie, Jack, Asher, Dean, Owen, Lucy, Julia, Jackson, and Aria.

It was her family's pleasure to care for Mary Ellen as she aged. They are thankful for the assistance of the Baystate Hospice team and appreciate each of them for making Mary Ellen's journey a positive and memorable one. She will be missed in so many ways.

A funeral Mass followed by committal services will be held privately for the family. In lieu of flowers, please send a gift of gratitude to Baystate Hospice Baystate health .org/foundation or Dakine Humane Dakinhumane.org.
