Obituary

With profound respect and love for the family of Margaret (Peg) Mattson sadly announces her peaceful passing on Monday July 1,2024 at her home surrounded by the comfort of her loved ones after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Born in West Springfield on July 30, 1930, to the late George and Margaret (Stark) Liddell, she was raised and educated there. Margaret wed the love of her life, Carl Mattson, and their commitment to each other remained unwavering celebrating their seventy fifth wedding anniversary last September 3,2023. Their journey began in Wilbraham where Peg had a successful career as a secretary in the school system and upon retirement, they relocated to Cape Cod where they enjoyed thirty years before returning to the area settling in Southwick. Margaret and Carl loved the beach which made living in South Yarmouth a joy, but they also were world travelers and found their favorite spot in Europe to be Switzerland. Margaret took the opportunity to welcome each day with great enthusiasm and looked forward to each new ad venture. She enjoyed gardening but also relished the quiet times where she could engage in the challenge of a jigsaw puzzle or read an enjoyable book. Margaret loved the holidays, especially entertaining her family and friends. Her greatest pleasure was the time she spent with her family. Her love was unwavering, and she created a legacy that will be forever remembered. She was a kind, gentle woman who treasured the simple things in life.

Surviving Margaret is her devoted husband Carl and her loving children Karen Mazurowski and her husband Bill of Agawam, Janice Dusza and her husband Mike of East Longmeadow and Carl Mattson and his wife Susan of Lone Tree Colorado. She will be fondly remembered by her cherished grandchildren William Mazurowski Jr, Melissa Dusza and April Svalestad as well as extended family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by her siblings George, Chuck, and Donald Liddell. The family would like to express their gratitude to the care and love provided to Peg by her nurse Kim Libiszewski who treated Mom like family.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday July 8,2024 from 4-6 P.M. at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street. Family and friends will gather at 9 A.M. on Tuesday July 9,2024 for a funeral home service to begin at 10 A.M. followed by committal at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 11 A.M. For those wishing to remember Margaret in a special way the family suggests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
