Obituary

With great sadness and love the family of Ross John Murray announces his unexpected passing on October 12,2025. The loss will be felt by many whose lives he touched in so many ways. Born in Springfield on February 14,1946 to the late John B. and Alberta (Ross) Murray Jr., he attended local schools graduating from Springfield Technical High School class of 1964 and completing his advanced degree in criminal justice from Holyoke Community College.  Ross went on to pursue a career in law enforcement, achieving the rank of Major in the Hampden County Sheriff's department at the Ludlow facility. He wed the love of his life Zilpha Thompson in 1968 and together they settled in Springfield and began their family. Ross, a father of three boys, coached soccer for many years and served as president of the Athletic Association at St Catherine's Church in Springfield.  He was a resolute member of the Moose Club and an avid golfer. Spending winters in Florida as a snowbird was most enjoyable for Ross. He also found it great fun to visit as many tag sales as he could find.  His peaceful place was walking on the beach in York Maine with his faithful canine companion, Molly. Ross was a very sociable person who was known for his unique ability to be a prankster. He was a kind, gentle man who loved life and lived each day to the fullest.

Surviving Ross is his beloved wife of fifty-seven years Zell and his devoted children, Michael and his wife Ann, Ross and his wife Connie and Robert and his wife Patricia. To cherish his memory, he leaves his adored grandchildren Shaun, Amanda, Danielle, Gwendolyn, Jonathan, Julianna and great grandchild Shaun Jr. He also leaves his loving sister Joan DeNoia as well as a large extended family and countless friends.
