Obituary

"All that we love deeply becomes a part of us". On July 22, 2024, we lost the heart of our family when Katherine G. (Davis) Blakesley, 93, passed away peacefully. She was born on June 29, 1931, in Erie, Pennsylvania to Charles and Helen (Daley) Davis. Katherine raised her children in Feeding Hills and lived there throughout most of her adult life. Determined to provide the best for her children, Katherine always worked very hard. While working nights and weekends as a long-time waitress at Storrowton Tavern, she pursued her degree as an LPN. Then, while working full-time as an LPN, she went on to become an RN. Katherine worked most of her nursing career at Baystate Medical Center, where she was a charge nurse. Katherine was a devoted and extremely proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She found her greatest joy spending time with, supporting, and being surrounded by her family, whether shopping, attending dance recitals or sporting events, or vacationing with them on Cape Cod.

Katherine also loved to travel and had a sense of adventure. Rafting on the Colorado River, kissing the Blarney Stone, visiting ancient ruins in Mexico, or enjoying the glaciers and wonders of Alaska, she was always up for a new experience. In addition, Katherine loved to do crossword puzzles, was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Katherine leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Thomas Blakesley and his wife Elena of West Springfield, her daughter, Colleen Marcus and her husband, James of West Springfield, and her daughter, Mary Ellen Blakesley of Indialantic, Florida. She was predeceased by her son, Donald Blakesley and his wife, Mary, her son, John Blakesley, and her brother, John Davis. Katherine also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Lynn Peltier and her husband Phillip, Daniel Blakesley and his wife Kristen, Sara Jasak, Brian Blakesley and his wife Samantha, Michael Marcus and his wife Jennifer, Jaime Ranstrom and her husband Thomas, Andrew Blakesley, Katelyn Seagler and her husband Christopher, and Ryan Thornholt. In addition, as she lovingly called them, her "greats", who brought her tremendous joy, Caroline, Harry, Penny, Grace, Thomas, Kennedy, Sadie, Benjamin, James, Luke, Zoe and Aaron. She also leaves behind her life-long friend, Sharyn Steinbock and her friends from Quail Run in Agawam, especially Thelma Dunham and Debbie Hirst.

Katherine was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Feeding Hills, but in recent years attended St. Thomas in West Springfield. Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in West Springfield at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Calling hours will be held at Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, Agawam on Saturday, July 27, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Donald W. Blakesley Scholarship Fund, Colleen Marcus, 258 Forest Glen, West Springfield, MA 01089
