Josephine Johnson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born on November 16, 1922, in Springfield, Massachusetts, and passed away on October 28, 2024, community.
Before her retirement, Josephine did the bookkeeping for both of her husband's businesses. A talented knitter and crocheter, she created beautiful garments for her children and grandchildren, sharing her love through crafts. She also enjoyed gardening, making jams from her homegrown grapes, and gifting canned goods to loved ones.
Josephine was an active member of the Southwick Senior Center, where she enjoyed bingo every Wednesday. Her passion for antique cars led her to serve with her husband as an officer of the Western Massachusetts Model A Car Club. During the Second World War, she served her country by working at the Springfield Armory while all the men were drafted to serve in combat.
She is survived by her son, James A. Neill Jr, and daughter-in-law, Nancy; grandchildren Amy Monson and her husband James, Jeffrey Neill, and his wife, Annie; and great-grandchildren Stella and Chase Neill, Emma, and Olivia Monson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Stella Coupas; her first husband, James Neill, in 1964 and second husband, Roy Johnson, in 2012; and her five siblings, Frank and Joseph Coupas, Teresa Rochette, Agnes Harkins, Irean Lynch.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Josephine's life during calling hours on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 9:30 AM at the Agawam Funeral Home, with a graveside service to follow at 11:30 AM. In place of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her honor. Josephine's spirit of kindness and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
