John A. Vedovelli was born on April 1,1936 to the late Anthony and Winifred Vedovelli in Springfield and spent his youth and was educated there. His family is deeply saddened to announce his peaceful passing at his residence on October 18,2026. Being a patriot and proud of his country John entered the United States Army and served honorably. He was a man who believed his calling was in the service of others. He chose a career as a firefighter where he could protect the lives of others and ensure their safety in their homes and businesses. He was an esteemed member of the Springfield Firefighters for more than thirty years. He was a member of the Firefighters Union # 648 and the Springfield Privates Club. John possessed a unique combination of psychological strength, practical skills, and deep community commitment. His work was very special to him as were his fellow firemen. In his leisure John was a true antique car aficionado and looked forward every year to attending one of the largest antique cars shows in the country at Hershey PA. He frequented the shows in Carlisle as well and was a member of the National Buick Club. He was the proud owner of five antique cars, among them a 1931 Buick,1940 Ford sedan and a 1949 Ford pickup. John was devoted to his family, his work and his hobby. He was blessed with a long and healthy life.
Surviving John are his devoted brothers Anthony and William and his wife Roberta as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Sadly, he was predeceased by his sister Patricia Rix and her husband Reign and sister-in-law Pauline Vedovelli (John).
Family and friends will gather on Monday October 26,2026 at Sacred Heart Church 395 Chestnut Street in Springfield for a 9:30 A.M. Liturgy of Christian Burial. Committal with full military as well as Springfield Firefighters honors will immediately follow at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
