Obituary

John Anthony Mercadante

John Anthony Mercadante passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026.

A lifelong resident of Feeding Hills, Massachusetts, John was born into a farming family and spent his entire life on the land where he was raised. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. Before shipping off, John proposed to the love of his life, Mary Mercadante. Their marriage of 66 years was a remarkable testament to their love and devotion until Mary's passing in 2022.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was the proud father of two sons 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild and treasured spending time with his family. Some of his happiest memories were watching his sons play baseball and hosting family and friends for summer cookouts around the backyard pool, where laughter and good company were always plentiful.

John dedicated more than 35 years of service to Western Mass Electric before retiring. In retirement, he and Mary enjoyed spending their winters in southwest Florida, where they looked forward to daily trips to the beach, evenings out for dinner, and countless card games shared with dear friends.

A true New England native, John was a lifelong and loyal New York Yankees fan. He could often be found relaxing in his favorite recliner, cheering on his beloved Yankees through every season.

He was predeceased by his wife, his brother Geatano Mercadante, his sister Ester Lovotti, and his son Anthony John Mercadante.

He is survived by his son Steven and his wife Christine Mercadante, his daughter in law Judi Mercadante, his grandchildren Michael and Kate Mercadante, James and Nicole Mercadante, Christian, Alanna, Clara, Eleanor and Alexander, his great granddaughter Natalie, his sister Geraldine, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

John will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, his warm hospitality, and the simple joys he found in life. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

A memorial service for John will be held on Saturday July 25, 2026 from 10:00AM-11:00AM at Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main St, Agawam, MA . A repast will be held after where all are invited to celebrate the life of John.
