Obituary

Joaquim “Jack” Henriques, a great man, loyal husband, devoted father, unwavering brother, grandpa, uncle and friend entered eternal rest peacefully on June 12,2026 encircled by the love of his family. Born in Springfield on January 3,1940 to the late Arnaldo and Adelaide (Fonseca) Henriques, he spent his youth and was educated there graduating from Springfield Technical High School class of 1958. Jack was a true patriot, dedicating twenty-eight years of service to his country serving in the Army, Navy Reserves and Air Force Reserves. He was very proud of his military service and was given many awards for the outstanding sacrifices he made during his time. He fell in love with his beloved wife, Beverly Walczak from the moment he accidently met her when he went to the wrong house” looking for a guy.” They were married and welcomed their children and for sixty-four years he considered her his best friend. He loved children and was a kid at heart. He spent countless hours and spared no effort when it came to creating fun times for his children and grandchildren. He built back yard skating rinks, attempted fun adventures even if at second thought it might not be such a good idea. He was quite a storyteller and could keep everyone intrigued for hours with his tales of imagination. Jack took great pleasure in telling the grandkids funny stories and recording them so he could later listen to their reactions. When his children were young, he looked forward to taking them out in his van on his delivery route, which was always an adventure, always capping the excitement by a stop at the White Hut for hot dogs. He was the go-to guy for help with any project and on rare occasion that he could not do something he would say “I have a guy for that”. He created memories and bonds for his family and friends that will not be forgotten or broken.

Jack was a valued member of the team at Tri State Industrial Laundries for many years until his retirement. In addition to his passion and love for his family, the farmhouse in Middlefield was his obsession. He restored a 1788 nine-room farmhouse seven acres from the foundation up with his son Michael by his side along with other family members and many friends. His vision from the clouds rolling through the walls to the beautiful home he built was truly amazing. From pouring the foundation to laying the floors with the trees he cut down on his land was a story in itself. He also enjoyed repairing and restoring old cars and trucks. He loved the challenge of hearing that it can’t be done because it provided the incentive for him to do it! Jack relished using his mind as well as his hands. His love for learning was very impressive. He spent many hours at the Springfield Library and was a member of the Western Mass Genealogical Society where he helped countless families trace their heritage. Jack was a humble man who enjoyed making others happy and could accomplish any task he was faced with.

Surviving Jack is his devoted wife, Beverly and his loving children, Son Michael and daughter Sharon Haley (Mark) and daughter-in-law Shelley Henriques. He leaves his cherished grandchildren, David Jr. Henriques (Lauren), Danielle Jones (Matt) Jeffrey Batakis, Timothy Henriques, Kevin Henriques, and Nicole Batakis. He will be greatly missed by his beloved siblings, Richard Henry, Barbara Henriques, Rhoda Krokov (Les), sister-in law Barbara Garete,

many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. Sadly, he was predeceased by his beloved son David, baby brother Henry, brother-in-law Dominick Garete and sister-in-law Joyce Henry.

The family would like to thank his nurse Aubrey Davis and Baystate hospice.

Services for Jack will be held on Thursday June 18,2026 beginning with visitation at 9 A.M. concluding with a funeral home service at 10 A.M. Committal with full military honors will follow at 11 A.M. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
