Obituary

Jeannine Marie (Boucher) Gorman, 86, of Port Charlotte, FL and previously of Springfield, MA passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Jeannine was born in Ludlow, MA on June 13, 1939. She was the devoted daughter of the late Eugene and Bernadette (Renaud) Boucher of Indian Orchard. Jeannine leaves behind her cherished husband of 63 years, Leonard D Gorman, her two children who will miss her guidance and wisdom, Laura G Thomas (Robert) and Daniel P Gorman (Beth), seven grandchildren, Joseph Rosinski (Grace), Kathryn Durben (Christopher), Connor Gorman (Cammey), Christopher Gorman (Caroline), Hannah Rosinski, William Rosinski, and Calvin Thomas, four great grandchildren, a brother, Paul Boucher (Phyllis), and family and friends whom she loved dearly.
Jeannine graduated from Maria Assumpta Academy in Petersham, MA and worked for several years at Monsanto before marrying Len and moving to Delmar, NY where she supported her new husband in his teaching career. Two years later, they moved back to Springfield, now a family of four. Jeannine was an active member of Holy Cross Parish in Springfield, giving generously of her time, serving as a lector, to teach catechism, and to volunteer at the school. She implemented a music program so that the children of Holy Cross School would have the opportunity to learn an instrument. Whether riding bikes to the Forest Park Library, preparing for summer camping trips, or teaching her reluctant children daily during the summer breaks from school, she did so with a sense of purpose, a smile, and a song (literally waking her children by singing "Good morning to you…" for much of their early years).
When her children were older, Jeannine returned full time to school, riding her bike or walking the 3 miles to the American International College campus each day and graduating first in her class. While teaching she earned her Master's Degree from AIC.
Jeannine initially taught English at Timothy Edwards Middle School and then became a member of the English Department at South Windsor High School. To her classroom every day, Jeannine brought the dynamic combination of the maturity of a woman who had accomplished a lot before becoming a teacher and the enthusiasm of a young woman who had found a passion in her new career. Jeannine Gorman and teaching were made for each other. She loved inspiring her students to be thoughtful readers and engaged writers. She delighted in the positive energy of her adolescent learners and fostered their academic growth and development.
Jeannine and Len traveled extensively, chaperoning students to Canada, England, and France. Together, they visited Ireland, Korea, Hawaii, Germany and many other destinations. Jeannine loved music, and played the piano and accordion, and sang in many choirs. She loved to sing! Books were very important to Jeannine. She was an avid reader and was never without a book or crossword puzzle.
Jeannine loved her family and built a wonderful life for them. She adored her grandchildren, who have fond memories of spending time with their Meme, enjoying sleepovers and movie nights, always followed by story time.
Most importantly, the love and devotion that Jeannine and her beloved Len shared was an inspiration for many who knew them and the ultimate gift to their children and grandchildren. Jeannine's love was endless. She was a woman of deep faith, and her love of our Lord guided her through every step of her journey.
Visitation will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026, beginning at 10:15am at Sacred Heart Church, 395 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow immediately at 11am. Burial will be private.
