Janet Phyllis Hemond November 13, 1934 – August 27th, 2025
Janet Hemond passed away at the age 90, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born on November 13th, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Abraham Isaac Zeller and Florence Helen Tacknoffsky. Janet was the younger sister of Stanley Zeller and Roslyn Mariam Zeller. At age one, her family moved to the Bronx, New York, and later settled in Springfield, Massachusetts. Janet graduated from Classical High School in 1952, and went on to earn a degree in Executive Secretarial Science from Bryant College in 1953.
She married Herman Paul Simon Jr. in 1955 an served as a substitute teacher at Longmeadow High School and Classical High School. In her 40s, Janet returned to school and earned a Master's degree in Business Education from American International College in 1977, graduating magna cum laude.
In 1983, she married Professor Robert Hemond. Janet was a lifelong learner and became a life insurance agent for over 40 years. Janet also loved to sing and was in a choir.
Janet valued family, hard work, and education. Janet spent most of her life sacrificing for her family over herself, giving everything she had to help in any way she could.
She is survived by her son, Todd Simon, his partner Sherrie Towne Donovan, and his daughter's Gabrielle and Mikaila Simon. She also left behind her son Dean Simon, his wife Cindy and their sons Michael and Matthew. Janet leaves behind a step daughter Kerry Hemond and two great grandchildren, Andrew and Skylar Robillard. Janet also leaves many nieces and nephews behind. She was predeceased by her daughter Joy Simon who passed away in October of 2024.
Calling Hours will be held Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main St Agawam on Saturday September 6th, from 10am-12pm.Followed by a 12:00 P.M. Funeral Home Service
