Obituary

Frederick's legacy began in Dorchester, MA on September 21,1932 where he was born to the late John and Bertha (MacInnis) McCormack and continued until his peaceful passing on March 25,2026, in the comfort of his home, encircled by the love of his family. Frederick spent his youth in South Boston where he attended Boston College High School on a full academic scholarship. He began his career as a lineman for the Boston Edison and served in the Army National Guard. He received certification in Electrical Engineering through MIT, and retired as the Supervisor of Maintenance Scheduling for the New England Power Exchange after many successful years. He wed the love of his life, Mary Ellen O'Brien in 1956 and they began their journey of 60 years together, until her passing in 2016. They welcomed their 5 children into a loving home where they instilled in them the most important values in life, providing them with love, guidance and wonderful humor. Fred was an active participant in his children and grandchildren's lives and supported all of their pursuits. Over the years he traveled to numerous hockey, baseball, and soccer games, as well as countless dance recitals, horseback riding events and gymnastics meets. Fred was a huge supporter of Irish Dance, and he was especially proud to watch his daughter, Eireann, perform in Riverdance on Broadway. He was a voracious reader and exceptionally skilled at completing the New York Times crossword puzzle and Sudoku. Fred enjoyed bowling, camping and was a loyal fan of the UCONN Woman's Basketball Team. He was an esteemed member of the Knights of Columbus Unity Council of West Springfield where he served as a past Grand Knight and was honored as Irishman of the Year.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Frederick "Mike" McCormack of Hayden, ID, Stephen McCormack and wife Lisa of Mendocino, CA, Kathleen McCormack-Watkins and husband John of Feeding Hills, Patricia Vangsness of Agawam, and Eireann Kochka and husband John of Feeding Hills. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Kelsi, Alex, Grace and Evelyn, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law, and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, Frederick is predeceased by his brother, John Robert McCormack, and three brothers-in-law, James O'Brien, Jeremiah O'Brien, and Chester O'Connor.

Visitation with his family will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street, beginning at 10 A.M. continuing to 11:30 A.M. at which time a procession will be formed to St. John the Evangelist Church for a 12 Noon Liturgy of Christian Burial.
