Elizabeth Rose Johnson, born on April 24, 1936, in Springfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on July 19, 2026. Elizabeth, affectionally known as Betty by those who loved her, lived a rich life in love and laughter, touching the hearts of everyone she met.
The cherished daughter of Murdo and Teresa Rose, Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Charlie, Bobby and Bruce, and her beloved husband, Robert (Bob) Johnson, with whom she shared an extraordinary love story. Elizabeth and Bob were married on October 27, 1956, and together they built a beautiful family and a life filled with warmth and joy.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her surviving family members: her children, Beth McCarl, Jill Crum, and Robert Wolff; her grandchildren, Mark Visconti, Alexandra Visconti, Luke Visconti, Julia Crum and Lauren Crum; her siblings, Helen Crowley, Judy LaMagdelaine, Kathryn Rose and John Rose; and her four great-grandchildren who brought her endless joy.
In her professional life, Elizabeth was a woman of many talents. She worked as a bank teller, The Country Squire furniture store, and at School Specialty, a teacher and school supplies company. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly when she started her own business, Smart Start, a boutique dedicated to babies and toddlers, which was a testament to her creativity and love for young families.
Elizabeth’s interests were as vibrant as her personality. She was an avid gardener, taking great pride in her flowers and veggie garden. Her kitchen was always filled with the delightful aromas of her home-cooked meals, and her love of reading was unparalleled. Elizabeth enjoyed the camaraderie of playing cards with friends and cherished evenings spent dining out followed by a movie. Above all, she treasured time with her family, always the heart of every gathering.
Known for her kindness and generosity, Elizabeth had the “gift of gab”, engaging everyone with her stories, discussing politics, sports – especially her beloved Red Sox – and reminiscing about family events. She was a compassionate listener, offering sage advice and unwavering support to those around her.
A memorial service to honor Elizabeth’s remarkable life will be held on October 27, 2026, beginning with visitation at 9:30 am concluding with a funeral home service at 10:30 am at the Agawam Funeral Home, located at 184 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. Committal rites to follow at Agawam Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be make to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization close to Elizabeth’s heart.
As we remember Elizabeth’s extraordinary life, we celebrate the love she gave so freely and the wonderful memories she leaves behind. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, forever cherished in our hearts.
