With great love, the family of Donald M. Rheault announces his peaceful passing on August 18, 2024. Born to the late Albert and Laura (Fontaine) Rheault on December 14, 1933, in Ware, he was raised and educated in Agawam graduating from Agawam High School class of 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Joan Mercadante, in 1952, raised 3 sons, and enjoyed seventy-two years together.
Don was a Marine Corps veteran and then chose a career with Merrell-Dow Pharmaceuticals as a sales professional. He enjoyed his involvement in youth athletics as a coach and organizer. Don took great pride in his family and spending time with them brought him immense joy. Vacationing at Moody Beach Maine and Walt Disney World were among his favorites.
Don distinguished himself by serving 30 years on the Agawam City Council including many as Council President. Don was a loyal friend and will be remembered among the town's most dedicated members and is held in high regard for his tireless efforts. Don led a fulfilling life. His impact will continue to be felt through the memories shared by those who loved him and had the honor of knowing him.
Surviving Don are his beloved wife Joan and his devoted children; Michael and his spouse Matthew Jaquith, Brian and his wife April and Scott and his wife Christie. To carry on his legacy, he leaves his adored grandchildren; Joshua, Matthew, Zachary, Christopher, Nathan, Caleb, Ethan, Faith, and Luke, and great-grandchildren; Mason, Carson, Sammy, Olive, Hunter, and Opal. He will be fondly remembered by his large extended family, countless friends, and the people of Agawam. He was predeceased by his siblings Patsy, Peggy, Marjorie, and Richard.
Visitation with the family will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 10:30-12:30 P.M. at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street. At the conclusion, we will travel in procession to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 123 William Street in Springfield for a 1:30 P.M. liturgy of Christian Burial followed by committal services at Springfield Street Cemetery in Agawam. Memorial donations in Don's name may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital or Beacon Hospice.
