Obituary

Courtney Lynn Bonesteel (Garrett)

April 18, 1987 – December 8, 2024

Courtney Bonesteel (Garrett) was born on April 18th, 1987, in Dallas, Texas and moved to Agawam, Massachusetts at a young age. She was a woman of extraordinary compassion and intelligence, with an undeniable love for music and poetry. Courtney used her gift of writing to express her deepest thoughts and feelings. Her writing was a reflection of her soul—deep and incredibly inspiring.

Courtney's dedication to helping others was evident throughout her life, especially throughout her career as a health aid. She offered many patients, friends, and family members care, comfort and compassion during times of need. In recent years, Courtney was a steadfast caregiver to her late grandmother. She loved nothing more than to express her love for friends and family through cooking and had an amazing talent for transforming the simplest of ingredients into a master recipe, even though her son would prefer gas station pizza.

Courtney loved fearlessly and unconditionally and maintained close relationships with family and friends from every chapter of her life. Her love for her son Colin was the truest and most profound of all. She would often say "whatever souls are made of, his and mine are the same."

She leaves behind a legacy of love and strength and is survived by her son, Colin Bonesteel; her mother, Jill Lewin and stepfather Robert Peck; her father, Stephen Craig Garrett; her sister, Katey Scott and husband Ryan Scott; her brothers, Joshua and Jim Lewin and wife Andrea Lewin; sisters, Rebeca Arruda and husband Austin Arruda, and Eleanor Pratt-Peck and husband Matthew Frey. Also mourning her loss are her nieces (Delilah, Frankie, Penny, and Sophia) and her nephews (Silas and Jackson), her uncles Leonard "Chip" Johnson and Michael Goncalves, and her childhood best friends, Jaclyn, Vanessa, and Ashley. Each of these individuals shared a unique bond with Courtney, their lives having been enriched by her love, friendship, and kindness.

Courtney is predeceased by some of her favorite people: her grandfather, Leonard "Buddy" Johnson, her close friend of many years, Kevin Kimball; her aunt Peggy Goncalves; and her grandmother Arleen "Lill" Johnson. May we find comfort in knowing that her soul is at rest having been reunited with them.

Courtney Bonesteel was a woman who made a significant difference in the lives of those around her and her presence will be missed greatly. The family will be holding private services by invitation only. In lieu of flowers, please consider gifting to Colin's 529 education fund through Fidelity at https://go.fidelity.com/vx21mr.
