Obituary

With heavy hearts and great sadness, the family of Carl (Ed) Mattson announces his peaceful passing on March 7,2025. Born on February 10,1923 to the late Charles and Greta (Gustafsson) in Springfield, he was raised and educated there graduating from Springfield Technical High School class of 1941. Carl went on to honorably serve his country earning a Bronze Star as a member of the United States Army and was a proud veteran of World War II and the greatest generation. He wed his beloved wife Margaret (Peg) (Liddell) in 1948 and proudly celebrated seventy-five years of marriage in 2023 before sadly her passing in 2024. Carl chose a career in manufacturing where he used his skills as a toolmaker as a valued member of the team at Rexnord for many years. Upon retirement because of their love of the beach, Carl and Peg moved to Cape Cod where they enjoyed over thirty years before returning to the area and settling in Southwick in 2015. They also found great joy in traveling the world together with Sweden being his favorite destination. Carl was an avid golfer and able to play well in his nineties. Being a true sportsman, he also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Carl loved the outdoors and spending time gardening brought him great joy. Carl was a humble man who loved his family immensely and enjoyed life to the fullest and gave freely of himself. He will live on in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched.

Surviving Carl are his devoted daughters; Karen and her husband Bill Mazurowski of Agawam and Janice and her husband Mike Dusza of East Longmeadow. To carry on his legacy, he leaves his cherished grandchildren; William Mazurowski Jr and his wife Amy, Melissa Dusza and her boyfriend Jimmy Redfern and April Svalestad and her husband Jon. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Peg and his siblings Kenneth, Herbert and Harold Mattson.

Visitation with the family will be held on Friday March 14,2025 at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street beginning at 8:30 .M concluding with a funeral home service at 9:45 A.M. Committal services with military honors will follow at 11 A.M. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations be made to the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery Volunteer Firing Detail in Agawam,1390 Main St. Agawam MA.01001 reflecting his deep commitment to his country and fellow veterans.
