Barbara D. Henriques, daughter of the late Arnold Henry and Adelaide (Fonseca)

Henry passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026.

She was born in Ludlow, Ma on September 19, 1945.

Barbara attended schools in Massachusetts and graduated from Classical High School. She continued her education at Holyoke community college, the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and Yale Divinity School in Connecticut.

She earned her Doctor of Education from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Barbara dedicated her life to education and the success of her students. She began her teaching career at Bank Street School in New Haven, Ct, and later taught in the Newtown, Ct school system. She went on to serve on the faculties

of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, Holy Cross in Hartford, Ct.

and retired from the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Ct.

Her passion for teaching extended far beyond the classroom. Barbara spent a year teaching in England and devoted 25 summers to Lithuania, where she trained and mentored teachers, leaving a lasting impact on countless educators and students.

Barbara also found great joy at her summer home in Vinalhaven, Maine, where she loved spending time surrounded by the beauty and tranquility of the island.

Barbara leaves behind to cherish her memory, her brother, Richard Henry,

her sister, Rhoda Krokov and husband Les, her sister-in-law Beverly Henriques,

and many beloved nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and

countless dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Arnold and Adelaide (Fonseca) Henry,

her brothers Joaquim Henriques, Baby Henry, her sister-in-law Joyce Henry,

and her nephew, David Henriques.

Our family would like to extend our thanks to her caregiver, Jenn Caron, for her

kindness and support during this difficult time.

Visitation with her family will be held on Monday August 10,2026 at the Agawam Funeral Home 184 Main Street beginning at 10 A.M. concluding at 11:30 A.M. with a funeral home service.

Burial will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Amherst, Ma, at the convenience of

the family.

Barbara will be remembered for her lifelong commitment to education, her generosity of spirit, her love of learning, and the many lives she touched, both in

the United States and abroad. Her legacy will continue through the countless students, teachers, family members, and friends who were blessed to know her.
